Recently, I saw them marked down to $5 at Walmart. I got one the same size as the Walmart one at TJ Maxx for $10.<br />
<br />
We have created a set of 10 quotes for the Light Boxes with flamingo/summer themed clip art. There is also a Journal Prompt card to go with each quote that can be used in a Writing Center.<br />

Palacio, at TJ Maxx the other day. It goes along with the Chapter book <u>Wonder</u> and the movie. I like this picture book because it is shorter and I plan to start my year with this book. It is a great way to talk about being kind to others and how we are all unique- or wonders!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I created a some reproducible pages, vocabulary cards, and bulletin board pieces to go along with this book. Here is a look at the bulletin board pieces. (The bulletin board pieces are black letters on white pages. You can print them out on colored paper to match your room.)<br />

Kelly and I found these for $1 each this week at Target.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHwYYQIy5Wf7puT7IfHG1OLYy0TJ5gMf7KYTJlK16zLGjUTIu1_KfDO8p7wQJ5IL2k4vhWo7nkdJxRjCcWayNdYst4N8ww9Oc-aQXP8rQ_xqQRTjanfAAeWgR2PHBCZh9R-Q5xJVxxo0Hu/s1600/Target.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHwYYQIy5Wf7puT7IfHG1OLYy0TJ5gMf7KYTJlK16zLGjUTIu1_KfDO8p7wQJ5IL2k4vhWo7nkdJxRjCcWayNdYst4N8ww9Oc-aQXP8rQ_xqQRTjanfAAeWgR2PHBCZh9R-Q5xJVxxo0Hu/s320/Target.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I got many of these for my grandson and some addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division card sets for my third grade class. Kelly is moving to Kindergarten, so these will be very easy for her to set up as centers as she gets used to the Kindergarten curriculum.</div>

The ways I use them have changed over the years as I have become more comfortable with them. Now, I wouldn't know what to do without having them in my classroom.<br />
<br />
This is how I have prepare them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC-dqisdtw5SWJvBsQv8wrDqMehFVDeBPEF4Y3y4TVfKrUcS-8wctCkv_jph2gNxiQGnY20LdEBzPTUbKXCiiZN5BdobXgrzYpRUFbThkiebBSoJEcBqD9shQbur6FMLfPP868ef9XN7I/s1600/August+8+2015+049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC-dqisdtw5SWJvBsQv8wrDqMehFVDeBPEF4Y3y4TVfKrUcS-8wctCkv_jph2gNxiQGnY20LdEBzPTUbKXCiiZN5BdobXgrzYpRUFbThkiebBSoJEcBqD9shQbur6FMLfPP868ef9XN7I/s320/August+8+2015+049.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This year, I am using these composition books.Last year, I used spiral notebooks and they worked well. I am using the composition books because I had some left over and the room I moved into had a lot in there already so I didn't have to buy any. I printed a simple label for the front and taped it on.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On the back cover, I put a laminated Hundreds, Tens and Ones chart for the children to write on. I also stuck on a 100 chart sticker. I got the stickers from JoAnn Fabrics in their Teacher section. I got the Hundreds, Tens and Ones chart in the "Math Tools" set I bought on Teachers Pay Teachers. I printed it 2 to a page so they would be smaller.</div>

On the inside cover, I attached the Math Tub of Tools from a set by Reagan Tunstall. You can get to it on Teachers Pay Teachers by clicking<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Math-Tools-1906332" target="_blank"> here</a>.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the inside of the back cover, I used duct tape to attach ribbon to be used as a bookmark. This will make it easier for the children to keep track where their next page is.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is how I have prepared the Math Journals. This will help us to be well prepared to start the year right off with our Math Journals.</div>

I know that it helps me a lot to do activities that have nothing to do with teaching sometimes. This helps me to recharge and I have more energy to give to my students when I return to work.<br />
<br />
This Thanksgiving Break, when I was not with family and eating turkey, I worked on creating a playroom for my grandson in our house.<br />
<br />
I love crafting and painting, so this was really fun for me. This room had been my son's room and then it was my craft room. We are now in the process of creating a "She Shed" in a shed outside for my craft room since we decided to make a playroom for Benjamin.<br />
<br />
Here are some pictures:<br />

This year, I have had a pencil dilemma.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my 21st year of teaching and I have never had this problem. I have always just put out pencils in the supply buckets at each table. I would put out new pencils as we needed them, but it wasn't very often. Each year, I always had a surplus of pencils left.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Luckily, I had a lot of extra pencils left from last year, because this year, the pencils in my room have been disappearing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I teach two different blocks of students. I'm not exactly sure where the pencils are going, but over 100 of them have gone missing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, I have been searching for a solution.For a couple of weeks, I had a sign out sheet for the pencils, but it was taking too much time to have the kids sign out a pencil and return it at the end of class, since I was having to monitor it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I looked online at Really Good Stuff and I found this amazing pocket chart.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5U-EXhWkjM9IjRB1IlKLshwwpRW3ZuCBvmfmkQHX3Tf5XrVVnYjKCy89Bo-vLrJ-kZ88bq3B1nuEETCv9BXjXebG6GQxfh0EM5LuVzDeVFUBlzxLoqZ4Nt9bbTi84hCuVBjyNmtv0Z6s-/s1600/november+8+2017+015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5U-EXhWkjM9IjRB1IlKLshwwpRW3ZuCBvmfmkQHX3Tf5XrVVnYjKCy89Bo-vLrJ-kZ88bq3B1nuEETCv9BXjXebG6GQxfh0EM5LuVzDeVFUBlzxLoqZ4Nt9bbTi84hCuVBjyNmtv0Z6s-/s320/november+8+2017+015.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wrapped each pencil with washi tape and numbered them. I gave each student a number. Now, at the beginning of each block, I quickly pass out the pencils. I have a student collect the pencils at the end of each block and we make sure all the pencils are returned. I have been using this system for a week and it is working very well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you are having a pencil problem, I highly recommend this pocket chart (or something similar).</div>

Since things are calm for now, I thought I would post some classroom pictures. This year, I moved to a new, larger, classroom, and I decided to go with a Sports theme. For the past few years, I didn't really have a theme. I used the colors turquoise and lime green with black.<br />
<br />
Anyway, here are some pictures:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
In my teaching career, I figured out very quickly that I needed to provide my students with continual spiral review of concepts in order for them to truly learn them. For most of my teaching years, I have taught First Grade (17 out of 20 years).<br />
<br />
First Grade is full of discovery for children. Many of them are seeing things for the first time at school. In Math, I always use lots of hands-on activities and manipulatives to go along with learning to write math ideas and answers on paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://ecdn.teacherspayteachers.com/thumbitem/BUNDLE-First-Grade-Math-Journals-aligned-to-Common-Core-4-of-them-1500875376/original-664849-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Throughout the years, I discovered that the math series books that we used did not do an adequate job of spiral reviewing the concepts. Often, there would be some spiral review papers here and there, but I always felt like they needed a quick review almost daily.<br />
<br />
I developed a daily math journal for my students that would provide a short daily practice of skills we had learned. It starts with easier concepts and gets more challenging as the year goes on and they learn more skills. I was recovering from Lyme Disease treatment one summer and was on the couch most of the month of July, so I had a lot of time to rearrange the problems and develop an order that matched our math series.<br />
<br />
I divided the journal into four parts- one for each of our 9 week grading periods. I used these for five years until I moved to Second Grade. I'm now teaching Third Grade. I miss these Journals! I've been working on one for Third Grade. Hopefully, it will get done this year. I want it to be helpful for the students and worth the time it takes them to complete the problems each day, so it is going slow as I figure out how I want it.<br />

I have been trying to slowly do some crafts for my classroom without going on school overload. I'm trying to relax this summer.<br />
<br />
Here are some things I have finished:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDcr8ukflrHUNe0KGr2MRNjg6Cy11IPJra3VMUISkN0h4ALyoxIKp4didbFCw4czQshTJUbcQ9Aa_mZ2YOvTGq2CzqAiBwcn6ijZP6jXQcYHg9AvDNkhMMVLx7qFef2MhCSlSKK4MxoyDr/s1600/mmi+1.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These letters are from the word "DREAM" I had up on my class cabinets the past couple of years. I decided to reuse the letters to spell"READ" in my class library.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I painted them in a darker blue. Then, I used Mod Podge to attach sports cut-outs that I had at home. The Gator heads are cut out from a roll of ribbon. This was a quick change (once the paint dried) that I think will add something to my class library.</div>
<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I ordered this wooden football shape with an "H" from Zulily for my classroom. (It was only $10). It is a very nice thick wood. I just used paint to transform it. Again, some blue paint for the "H".</div>

<br />
I took this picture in my father's backyard. He was born and raised in Florida and enjoys collecting flamingos to remind him of Florida. He also grows bamboo, like he had at his father's house in Florida. So, Ben enjoyed playing among the bamboo and flamingos and I caught him with this picture.<br />

This picture makes me smile. Ben is so fun and whimsical!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been slowly working on things for my new classroom and theme. I am going to do a Sports theme. I made banners for my bulletin boards: Math, Science, and Social Studies. I bought black and white striped banners at Target on clearance ($2 each). I created letters with circles around them to attach to each banner piece. Here is how they look:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I did mine in blue and orange letters (for the Gators). If you like the letters, here is a freebie with the letters and circles around them. The letters are in black <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Freebie-Letters-with-Circles-3253150">here</a>.</div>

I can't believe July is already here! June was busy around here. Luckily, July should be a little slower and relaxing. I love making crafts and painting. So, I really enjoy these Monday Made It blog posts. I love seeing what other teachers are busy making over the summer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't take a "before" picture, but these are cardboard letters that are about 5 inches tall. I got them from Hobby Lobby last week. I kept them fairly simple and just painted them in blue and orange for my classroom - Sports theme with orange and blue for the Gators. I plan to put them on top of the shelf where I keep the math manipulatives. </div>

After a week long trip to Oregon to visit family, I am back and have started slowly working on things for next school year. We have linked up with 4th Grade Frolics for the weekly "Monday Made It".<br />

Sign Make-Over</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a sign I made for my last classroom. I decorated with turquoise and lime green. I had those colors for a few years, so I decided to change for next year. I have decided on a Sports theme. The colors will be mostly black, white, green, blue, and orange. The blue and orange are for our local college football team. Go Gators! </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, I am trying to reuse items in my classroom. I decided to just paint this since I enjoy using it to hang up pictures during the year. This is what it looked like last year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I painted it blue. The "H" was painted orange.I put Gator ribbon and a logo in the corner. The clothespins were already dark blue, so I just painted around them. Here it is now:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This took less than five minutes to do. I bought this cute small white board at Target last year. I hung it above where I displayed student work and changed the titles of the work. The trim was turquoise.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have seen the cutest tropical themed items this summer! If I had seen them earlier, I may have chosen that as a theme for my classroom next year. A teacher friend of mine is doing this theme- with an emphasis on flamingos. So, I have been designing things for her. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a FREE Welcome sign I have posted on Teachers Pay Teachers. The letters come in both pink and green. You can click <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Tropical-Fun-Themed-Free-Welcome-Banners-3224158">here</a> (or on the picture) to download your own banner.</div>

I discovered them last Summer. Before then, I was in a district where we didn't have a choice of what to use for lesson plans. I ordered my Lesson Plan book in late July last year and it took a little while to arrive, so I didn't have it the first week of school.<br />
<br />
I was excited when I returned from my trip to Oregon and my new book was waiting for me. I think I received it 1 1/2 weeks after I ordered it. This is the cover I chose for next year:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-fqRTa-09Y7_gZxYO4kLv1s8hgGdolMELxBcTcg9N0oP6icVmBAMQPGjQ1EXi8L7mFlKlO2w_ycGTeIj-cJlUSJumt306xdomEPVDQq7JHbgBPPgGB2UQki6UW2qej7luitr61xBaM-Yu/s1600/DSC03975+%25282%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-fqRTa-09Y7_gZxYO4kLv1s8hgGdolMELxBcTcg9N0oP6icVmBAMQPGjQ1EXi8L7mFlKlO2w_ycGTeIj-cJlUSJumt306xdomEPVDQq7JHbgBPPgGB2UQki6UW2qej7luitr61xBaM-Yu/s320/DSC03975+%25282%2529.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the inside pages, I like to use whole sheet stickers and print out the headers instead of writing them in the boxes. I don't put the times at the top of the columns, so I just type the subjects. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is what the page looks like in the book when it comes:</div>

I decided to make the Headers for next year with just a white background to save on printer ink. If you would like to use the Headers I made, I have uploaded them to Teachers Pay Teachers <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Lesson-Plan-Book-Header-Labels-FREE-3215530">here</a> for free. Unfortunately, you can't edit them. (I am still learning how to do that.) You could print one out and use it as a size template if the words aren't exactly what you need. Enjoy!</div>

I have decided to change my classroom theme to "Sports" next year. I have had a color-theme for the past few years of turquoise and lime green. I am ready for a change. Since I will still be doing 3rd grade next year, and sports are big in our college town, I have decided on a Sports theme. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
I finished painting the letters for the top of my cabinets. Here they are:</div>

Now, for a couple of "Made Its" for the house. My husband and I made planter areas for in front of a small shed behind the house. We decided to use wood around the area because when it rains hard, the water runs to the front of the shed since it is at the bottom of the hill. Since it decided to flood last week, they have already been useful. The plants were fine and the wood helped the water go on either side of the shed.</div>

Here's a fun "Made It". I found this tray at Hobby Lobby. We have a lot of squirrels in the woods around our house and I like to feed them corn. I was looking for a low feeder I could use. My husband drilled holes in the metal tray to drain any rain and I fill it with corn for the animals. They seem to enjoy it.</div>

I wanted a packet that the students could keep as a record of some of their learning and activities. Since I previously taught second grade, the end-of-year packets I already have are too simple for my students this year.<br />
<br />
I included 39 pages in these packets. You can pick and choose which pages to use with your students. There are multiple pages for each subject (Math, Science, Writing, Reading, and Social Studies). I included places for them to record concepts that were easy for them this year and areas they needed to be persistent in to learn the concepts. They get to record their favorite learning strategies, as well as, their memories of class/school activities. There are pages for each Special Area class (PE, Music, Art, Computer Lab, Media, Library, Guidance) and a page for Autographs.<br />
<br />
I have posted the packets on Teachers Pay Teachers. They are having a Sale beginning tomorrow for two days (May 9th-10th).<br />

My grandson, Ben, is now 13 months old. He was born on March 17, 2016- a St. Patrick's Day baby. I was looking through some pictures and I found the one below. It was taken on March 18th last year. We live on a very wooded 5 acres in the country. When we came home that day from seeing Benjamin at the hospital, there were literally, hundreds of these plants with purple flowers that had popped up all around the side yard. They were not there the day before. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqWnHI6HT21ppSoguSzjkc30pD489LM4m5ACU7EHGDPzbSG2sd1ECiTlOwEff_-eOHxcny-GxG5VqjsVi7cg4Pov9Gnb8GCWDpUkmbkP2c2CQdJf1UFOo6f7yUmAzsViRy54S_0AnToFSR/s1600/DSC00071.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqWnHI6HT21ppSoguSzjkc30pD489LM4m5ACU7EHGDPzbSG2sd1ECiTlOwEff_-eOHxcny-GxG5VqjsVi7cg4Pov9Gnb8GCWDpUkmbkP2c2CQdJf1UFOo6f7yUmAzsViRy54S_0AnToFSR/s320/DSC00071.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At first, I thought they must have been from seeds of previous flowers I had planted, but we realized they were not similar to any we had in the yard. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The "whimsical" part is that purple was my mother's favorite color. (She passed away in November 2013) Was this her way of celebrating Benjamin's birth? I like to think so.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The interesting thing is that these flowers showed back up this year on Ben's birthday and stayed around for a couple of weeks. Hmmm...it makes me wonder.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

It is very relaxing for me. So, I have already been thinking about my classroom decor next year so I can start working on the crafts.<br />
<br />
I have decided on a "Sports" theme. I will most likely be teaching third grade, but may be moving up to fourth grade. I think "Sports" is a good theme for the older kids. The city I teach in also has a local college team that is very popular so I will be incorporating the Gators also in my room.<br />
<br />
I have a space above my cabinets where I currently have the word "DREAM". For next year, I want to put the word "PLAY" up there. I have started painting the cardboard letters and I want each one to be painted int he style of a sports ball.<br />
<br />
So far, I have the "P" painted in a baseball style.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm still working on the other letters. The "L" will be a basketball. The "A" will be a soccer ball. The "Y" will be a football. I bought the "P" first- at Hobby Lobby. I bought the other letters at JoAnn Fabrics. I thought they were all the same size,but I think I like the "P" being larger.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll post a new picture when I get them done. With everything else going on right now, I can only work on crafts for a short amount of time at once.</div>

<div style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
I spend Wednesdays, after work, with my grandson, Benjamin. He just turned a year old and is the light of our lives. Yesterday, I showed him the water table I got for him to play with when he is at my house.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1E8I5vmAR_tP71NBnk8D9XtAt6u391ZHmHFXmeZK5WHdcJY6nXK92Ta-USDNvsgO1i4R5M8YUQoYsqm-0v9-4C7fDR_nQyfTxk05AiEUoHu4Z9sY_7zVhXc6dl7wU4nafso8bkmrFLw-X/s1600/april+27+2017+010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1E8I5vmAR_tP71NBnk8D9XtAt6u391ZHmHFXmeZK5WHdcJY6nXK92Ta-USDNvsgO1i4R5M8YUQoYsqm-0v9-4C7fDR_nQyfTxk05AiEUoHu4Z9sY_7zVhXc6dl7wU4nafso8bkmrFLw-X/s320/april+27+2017+010.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
This time of the school year,can always be challenging- between end-of-year testing and the "summer fever" that seems to hit my students early every year.<br />
Benjamin made me forget all of the stresses of the day as we just played in the water. I love watching him explore and learn from the world around him. It is amazing to watch him learn! And I am able to remember why I wanted to be a teacher in the first place- to help make learning fun for children so they would become life-long learners. I definitely felt refreshed after spending a few hours with him yesterday.<br />

I love to use them with small reading groups throughout the year. I have designed Reading Comprehension packets that I have used for several years with First and Second Graders. I have used them in small groups, as well as, a whole group of 18 students at one time. I included many comprehension skills such as previewing, schema, making connections, visualizing, predicting, sequencing, answering "right there" questions, inferring, comparing and contrasting, and more.<br />
<br />
Here is a picture of the cover and first few pages of the first set.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Welcome! We are glad you stopped by to see our new blog. We are Stephanie and Kelly and we have known each other for about 14 years. We taught next door to each other at two different schools. Currently, we each teach in a different county, but talk daily.<br />
<br />
We love to teach using engaging, hands-on materials. Through this blog, we are hoping to inspire others as we continue on our teaching journeys.<br />
<br />
We chose the word "Whimsy" as part of our blog title because we enjoy being creative and inspired in our teaching.<br />
<br />
In my classroom (Stephanie's), I have many things to keep me, and my students, inspired. I have these large letters that spell DREAM on top of my tall cabinet. They are directly across the room from me when I sit at my teacher table. I see them throughout the day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB4eDPicCj03cBTFWOzLS008bYxKy1EvRbui7dg3OAUrEyIwXoWDNPqPR-FmBmL50XFDAl-fGvTWrjSaqTxggBh93DE_ej3XPWwLowVL1qhVoySUxOb6S9Z38VYI-T1AKsW_fqLyYxmC09/s1600/april+24+2017+083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB4eDPicCj03cBTFWOzLS008bYxKy1EvRbui7dg3OAUrEyIwXoWDNPqPR-FmBmL50XFDAl-fGvTWrjSaqTxggBh93DE_ej3XPWwLowVL1qhVoySUxOb6S9Z38VYI-T1AKsW_fqLyYxmC09/s320/april+24+2017+083.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made this sign to go in the corner of my classroom by my teacher table. I found the wooden slat back at Walmart and painted it turquoise. I added an "H" from Joann Fabrics, a couple of wooden clothespins, and three tiny pennants I cut out of paper from my set from School Girl Style. I love the saying "Too Many Blessings to Count". It reminds me that I am very blessed even when I am having a rough day. And, of course, pictures of my grandson, Benjamin, always brighten up my day.</div>
